10 Commandments to LOVE YOUR BODY

Love Commandment 8: Promise to Change

“Losers make promises they often break.  Winners make commitments they always keep.”
Denis Waitley

We are nearly at the end of our Love Your Body series, and I hope you have enjoyed my posts so far 🙂

Today I want to discuss the importance of promises, and why you need to make one to yourself in order to be successful on your weight loss journey.

A promise is defined as a commitment by someone to do or not do something.

When we make promises to friends and family, we value their worth and endeavour to keep them.  Why then should it be any different regarding the promises that we make to ourselves?

The truth is that many of us simply don’t take the promises we make to ourselves seriously, and this can have a knock-on effect of breaking down trust in ourselves and thus our inner wellbeing and success.

Today I want you to write down a promise to yourself to change. Not only to change the destructive habits that are causing you to feel unhappy, but to create positive, self-serving habits that will create your happier, healthier New You!

This can sound a little difficult to do, so I have written my promise to myself to share with you as an example:

Dear Melissa,

Today – 25 February 2014 – I am making you a promise to change.  This promise is to ensure that you make the rest of your life the BEST of your life, and experience the happiness that you DESERVE:

  • I will stop making excuses to binge on foods that are unhealthy and will cause me to gain unneeded weight
  • I will be aware daily of my emotions and how they impact my actions
  • I will stop playing the victim and realise that my circumstance are a result of the choices I have made, my happiness does not depend on others
  • I will exercise a minimum of twice a week, and make time in my schedule to allow for this
  • I will ensure that I have the resources easily available for me to keep to my TFR / VLCD diet
  • I will create rewards that are non-food based to motivate me when I have accomplished a milestone, and to make my journey even more enjoyable 🙂
  • By June 2014 I will be at my ultimate goal weight, and ready to ROCK my tiny bikini on the beach… Woohoo!
  • I will give my very best to everything I do – work, love, family, exercise, diet and more – 100% of the time
  • I will continue to think positively about my current life and my future, I will create the life I dream of living by fulfilling these promises.

Today I appreciate the worth and value of this promise I make to myself, and I will endeavour to keep it to ensure I accomplish my dreams.

Love,

Melissa

today 25th february 2014 i promise to continue my new you journey to a fitter healthier and happier person .i will continue to be 100% focused on getting to my goal weight while allowing myself to be a little selfish for once in my life by putting myself if not first at least a close second to my kids as all my life ive been the one who always put everyone else first and forgetting to look after me,being in a car accident made me re-evaluate my life and made me realise i do matter and i am important enough to get this done. i will continue to award myself along the way with little treats for reaching certain goals and when i reach my goal weight i will be a happier and healthier person and once again start to love me, this is my promise to myself.

Pauline, that is a fantastic promise to yourself – I hope you feel great after writing that 🙂
It is so important to prioritise yourself instead of letting everyone else’s needs come first all the time.
Thanks for your comment and I look forward to hearing of your New You journey success 😀 xxx
